Forget your face, look after your feet

New Farm Thai Foot Spa therapist Belinda Sidwell says it astonishes her that women spend thousands of dollars on facial lotions, potions and treatments but forget to invest in their feet.

She owns The Thai Foot Spa on James Street: a unique and tranquil foot pampering sanctuary she says can change lives.

“Most women would never even consider leaving the house without having first put on their facial moisturiser,” Sidwell says.

“But to me, it’s so much smarter to invest in your feet, rather than in your face.”

“Just because we cover our feet, doesn’t mean we can forget about them.”

The Thai Foot Spa treatments incorporate ancient Asian reflexology that dates back 5000 years and offers the same therapeutic benefits as a full body massage.

“A foot massage is a non-invasive way to enjoy entire-body benefits without having to take your clothes off,” she says.

The menu includes fragrant foot soaks and rubs and gentle hands, shoulder, head and feet massages.
“Modern footwear and busy lifestyles aren’t doing our feet any favours,” Sidwell says.

“We squeeze them into shoes all day.”

“Feet do all the hard work by carrying us around, so it’s nice to give them some treatments so they keep working for us.”

She says in winter our feet need extra help to battle the cold, dry air and  paying them some attention doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Belinda’s expert tips on feet treats and healthy hooves:
• Pick up a pedi-paddle and shave off the hard, dead skin on your dry feet soles.
• To soften your skin, soak feet in a bucket of warm water every night for at least ten minutes.
• Keep an exfoliant pad and in the shower and buff your feet every day to prevent the build up of dead skill cells.
• In Winter your feet can dry out quickly so put some moisture back in daily by using an oil or cream.
• Use the oil or cream to massage your own feet or have a friend do it for you.
